Holiday How-To: Gift Wrapping with Tenugui Cloth
One of the best parts about the holidays is getting to wrap your thoughtfully picked gifts for your family and friends. And this year, we wanted to share one of our favorite ways to wrap your presents. Cue: the humble and oh-so-versatile Tenugui cloth, opens in a new tab.
Aside from being a sustainable swap, gift wrapping with fabric also means your lucky recipient gets an extra present alongside the unwrapping experience. As fans of all things Tenugui, we put together a step-by-step tutorial below. Part of the joy of gift wrapping is that it allows for so much personalization. Think of the below guide as an outline to help get your creative juices flowing. Add Eucalyptus sprigs, dried flowers, vintage ribbon, or other natural materials that you love most.
SUPPLIES:

Gift

Tenugui cloth, opens in a new tab or other fabric of choice

Greenery, ribbon, or dried oranges to decorate (optional)
Step 1
Place the Tenugui horizontally and center your gift at the bottom edge.
Step 2
Fold the near side and far side of the cloth to wrap your gift. Once wrapped, the cloth edges should be at the top.
Step 3
Starting with one side, slightly twist the open ends to secure the Tenugui in place (like a candy wrapper).
Step 4
Lift the twisted end over the gift. Repeat on the other open end.
Step 5
Tie both ends together, pull firmly on the edges of the fabric, and adjust the appearance as needed. Add fresh florals or sprigs of greenery for a festive touch.
